Born and raised in Thailand, and as a travel blogger myself, I do not have the same freedom to travel the world as other travel bloggers from the Western Hemisphere.
For one thing, I have a third-world passport, which prevents me from traveling to places like Europe and the United States unless I go through hoops and hoops of bureaucracy to get the visa, and even then, I can only stay for a very limited time, so I can't travel on the spur of the moment like most first-world passport holders.
Second, and perhaps more importantly, the Thai currency is weak, trading at around 31 THB per 1 USD. When you combine that with Thailand's low-income rate, traveling to places like Europe and the United States becomes prohibitively expensive. As a result, there aren't many representatives from Thailand in the global travel blogging industry.
Having said that, I have found a way to travel the world despite my circumstances and have been doing so for the last 8 years. One of those skills is finding places and countries that are inexpensive for Thais to visit, and I'm here to help you find the cheapest countries to visit.
Without further ado, here are the ten cheapest countries to visit for budget travelers, backpackers, or anyone looking for a way to save money while traveling the world.
Thailand
Of course, Thailand, my home country, must be included. I used to despise living in Thailand because it was the only place I knew and I wanted to experience the "developed" world like most people from developing countries do, but after traveling the world for the last 8 years and living in other countries for months on end, I finally understand the true value of Thailand and why it is so popular among travelers.

I mean, how many countries can you go to and find a variety of delicious and fresh street food for less than 1.5 USD? In how many countries can you find fantastic lodging for less than $15 USD per night? From my experience, not much.
Thailand is one of the most affordable countries to visit, but that doesn't mean much if it isn't accompanied by a plethora of beautiful tourist attractions ranging from the high mountains of Northern Thailand to the beaches and islands of Southern Thailand.
If you want to visit a cheap country that has it all, from great and cheap food and accommodation to a tropical climate and stunning scenery, Thailand is the place to go.
Indonesia
It's also dirt cheap here, even in touristy places like Bali if you look hard enough. I've visited Indonesia five times now, and each time, the country surprises me with something I didn't see the previous time.
There are numerous activities available here, ranging from hiking Mount Rinjani to swimming with manta rays in the Komodo Islands. Java, Indonesia's main island, is home to some stunning temples such as Borobudur and Prambanan, and it is still relatively inexpensive to visit.
Even though Bali is becoming increasingly expensive due to the influx of tourists each year, there are still many pockets of the Hindu island where you can find inexpensive places to eat and do things.
Flores and the Komodo Islands offer a great place to visit that is relatively off-the-beaten-path and still very affordable, especially when you travel outside of tourist cities like Labuan Bajo.
Overall, Indonesia is one of the most affordable countries to visit in the world, with so many things to do and places to see for very little money, so if you want to save money without sacrificing your experience, Indonesia is the place to be.
Vietnam
Colombia may not appear to be a cheap country to visit from the outside, but if you dig deeper and spend more time here, you will discover that the food, accommodations, and things to do in Colombia are actually very affordable, and in some cases, cheaper than most places.
Food in Medellin and Bogota is usually around 2.5 USD per meal, which is already quite cheap, but if you go for the "Menu del Dia" or "Menu of the Day," which you can often find in most restaurants, you can get it for as little as 6,000 COP or 1.5 USD, which is almost the same price as food in Southeast Asia.
Not to mention that the food and lodging become even cheaper as you travel outside of the two major cities. When you consider all of the cool things you can do in Colombia, such as attending a free salsa dance workshop in Medellin or hiking in the Cocora Valley in Salento, Colombia deserves a spot on this list.
